My ASU journey: a transformation in music and life

At Arizona State University, I didn't just learn; I grew as a teacher. Take a look of how my passion for music intertwined with my personal growth, shaping me into the educator and individual I am today. Discover the milestones, the challenges, and the cherished memories that define my time as a Sun Devil.

A Journey of Musical Versatility

My time at ASU truly broadened my horizons as a musician. I embraced the challenge of becoming a flexible instrumentalist, seamlessly transitioning from my primary focus on mallet percussion to exploring guitar and woodwind instruments. This dedication to growth allowed me to perform with the university's most prestigious ensembles, including the ASU's Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, while also proudly marching with the Arizona State University Marching Band. These experiences were a great experience for my of musical performance.

Educating the Next Generation

ASU provided invaluable hands-on experience that directly prepared me for a career in music education. My internship at Kyrene De La Brisas allowed me to contribute to their 'Mallet Masters' program, teaching young students Orff percussion before school which is a perfect fit for my background considering I specialize in mallet percussion. Later, at Tempe High School, I collaborated with the percussion section, even composing original pieces for them. Working with the honor band broadened my understanding of various instruments, making me a more well-rounded educator. I am incredibly grateful for my student teaching experience with Yuki Kuno, where I continue to learn and grow, mastering instruments beyond my initial scope at ASU.

My Senior Recital: the stages

Among my most cherished achievements at ASU was my senior recital, an   ambitious project titled 'The Stages.' This performance was a unique fusion of music and visual art, where I played alongside a specially created video, aiming to convey the complex emotions associated with the stages of grief through percussion instruments. The Stages showed my time from the moment I graduated to the end of my college years and the journey in-between. The outcome filled me with immense pride, proving the power of music to tell an amazing story.

"I've changed not only as a musician and teacher but also as a human. I made a lot of memories and friends that support me, and I'm so glad of the opportunities that I was a part of ASU. I'm really thankful for how the music faculty has shaped me into the teacher that I am Today."
